U.S. Army Selects Spectrum's SDR-4000 for Software Defined Radio Research

COLUMBIA, MARYLAND--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 14, 2006) - Spectrum Signal Processing (USA) Inc., a subsidiary of Spectrum Signal Processing Inc. (TSX:SSY)(NASDAQ:SSPI), today announced that its flexComm(TM) SDR-4000 platform has been selected by the Space and Terrestrial Communications Directorate of the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center (CERDEC) for software defined radio research and development.

"The SDR-4000 product line has been designed for the small form-factor, rugged applications typically found in the defense sector and is also well suited for Quick Reaction Center teams with rapid deployment mandates."

The SDR-4000 is a rugged 3U CompactPCI(R) software defined radio platform that is comprised of two main hardware components: the PRO-4600 modem processing engine and the XMC-3321 dual transceiver input/output mezzanine module. RapidIO(TM) provides a high bandwidth interconnect fabric between these cards, as well as the input/output functionality to ensure the efficient use of the processing resources. Software development tools provided with this platform include Spectrum's quicComm(TM) hardware abstraction layer, which facilitates algorithm partitioning and programming, and a real-time operating system. The platform can be optimized for program specific size, weight, power consumption, cost and ruggedization requirements.
