PrismTech Webcast Uncovers the Benefits of a Common Information Model to Support Net-Centricity within a Coalition Environment
2 months 1 week away
(EMBARGOED)

Boston, MA, USA – 27 May, 2008 — PrismTech™, a leader in high-performance middleware and development tools, will host a free webcast that addresses the benefits of employing a Common Information Model (CIM) to facilitate the integration of Coalition-based net-centric systems-of-systems environments. In addition, the webcast will highlight how integrated tooling-environments based on the Data Distribution Service for Real-Time Systems (DDS) standard, in synergy with the CORBA Component Model (CCM), can effectively support CIM-based net-centric architectures.

Titled “Coalition-Based Development for Next Generation Net-Centric Systems-of-Systems Infrastructure,” the webcast is intended for developers, projects managers, architects, and division heads within the defense and aerospace industry. It is scheduled for June 5, 2008 from 9.00am to 10.00am US ET and will be repeated again at 2.00pm to 3.00pm US ET.

Coalition-based consortia are increasingly developing and relying on net-centric systems-of-systems, such as those used for combat management systems, land systems, and air traffic control systems. In these systems, a variety of parties often provide components of applications and infrastructure, much of which is based on commercial-off-the-shelf and Military-off-the-shelf components. For these types of heterogeneous environments, integration of software components becomes a major challenge, not only at the protocol level, but also in terms of common semantics and overall systems-of-systems behavior.

To facilitate the integration of net-centric systems-of-systems, a CIM is needed to express the semantics of relevant information and fulfill functions in the development process. For example, a CIM can help elucidate requirements from Coalition customers during earlier phases of a project and can also provide a basis for component-based software development and large-scale reuse of assets in software product lines during the later phases.

Additionally, DDS and CORBA CCM can capture and exploit the CIM during the phases of net-centric systems-of-systems design, development, integration and evolution/maintenance as well as benefiting from their runtime coexistence.

The webcast will be presented by PrismTechs Douglas C. Schmidt, Ph.D., chief technology officer, and Angelo Corsaro, Ph.D., OpenSplice DDS product marketing manager. Dr. Schmidt is an internationally renowned and widely cited expert on distributed computing middleware, object-oriented patterns and frameworks, and distributed real-time and embedded systems. Dr. Corsaro has extensive experience in applying an information-centric approach toward mission-critical and real-time net-centric systems, and serves as a co-chair of the Object Management Groups™ (OMGTM) DDS SIG, and for the OMG TM Real-Time Embedded and Specialized Services.
