GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms To Present Paper On Harbor Surveillance at UDT Europe 2008
1 year 9 months ago

At the UDT (Undersea Defence Technology) Europe 2008 conference and exhibition (June 10 - 12, Glasgow, Scotland) GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms will present a poster session entitled “Technical Needs and Challenges in Harbor Surveillance”.

“High frequency sonar applications are not a new concept,” said Dan Veenstra, Product Manager, Mil/Aero Products Group at GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms, who will be delivering the paper. “Navies of the world have been using high frequency sonar to seek out mines for the past 60 years. More recently, however, a growing imperative to counter terrorist threats to harbors and coastal areas has created the need for a new range of high frequency sonar products, designed to detect and track specific surface and underwater targets such as divers, swimmers and water vehicles.”

“As a consequence, COTS vendors of acquisition products have been forced to re-examine, and in some cases redesign, existing technical solutions to cope with the very demanding requirements of these applications,” he continued. “My paper will look at the newest approaches to acquiring and processing high frequency sonar signals and the benefits these have over older traditional approaches.”

Veenstra will deliver his session (Session PIII.1) from 12:30pm on June 12th.

At the GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms booth (Hall 4, Booth 128) three key products will be highlighted. daqNet is a revolutionary new concept ideal for today's network-centric environment, designed for sonar, vibration analysis and test and measurement applications, and has been optimized to provide high performance, high-speed signal conversion capability for up to 192 channels of analog I/O or 240 channels of digital I/O. An autonomous high-speed acoustic data processing solution, daqNet comes ready to run right out of the box.

Also demonstrated will be AXIS, GE Fanucs innovative Advanced Multiprocessor Integrated Software development environment. AXIS substantially speeds the design, debugging and deployment of complex signal processing applications requiring multiprocessor PowerPC® systems, and provides the ability to simply and seamlessly scale systems from very small to very large with minimal effort. GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms provides a unique foundation of agile, advanced and ultra-reliable technology that customers can trust to ensure their long-term success.

GE Fanuc has also developed a range of rugged monitors, specifically designed for deployment in harsh environments, and representative examples of these including the SealTouch and Wolverine will also be on display.
