LOS ANGELES, Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ --Scalable Network Technologies, Inc. (SNT), the leader in Wireless network evaluation, announced that it was awarded a $349K basic research contract from the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Life Cycle Management Command (CE-LCMC) to develop a prototype analysis and simulation tool for evaluating cross-layer wireless network designs. The U.S. Army is studying cross-layer network designs as a potential solution to the interference, capacity, and latency limitations of current-generation on-the-move communication networks.
A collaboration by SNT and Telcordia Technologies Inc., the prototype of a cross-layer analysis and simulation system (CLASS) tool will be developed using analytical and simulation-based approaches for evaluation and validation of different cross-layer network architectures. Telcordia will participate as a subcontractor to SNT.
“Much has been published in the scientific literature in the last several years on cross-layered networking designs, but there is currently no platform for evaluating the architectures and algorithms being proposed,” said Dr. Rajive Bagrodia, CEO of SNT. “There are also no known methodologies for conducting fair-comparison evaluations of these theoretical designs. The SNT/Telcordia CLASS tool will combine new mathematical analysis and simulation technology with the parallel processing and scalability of SNT’s QualNet® Developer simulation software. Researchers and engineers will be able to compare performance of cross-layer network designs on simulated networks consisting of hundreds of nodes, with the simulation running in real-time.”
"The new SNT/Telcordia CLASS tool will enable program managers to evaluate different cross-layer architecture options in a realistic and real-time environment provided by QualNet,” says Sunil Samtani, director & chief scientist for Telcordia Technologies, Applied Research. “The combination of analytical techniques and a real-time simulation environment realizes a unique and powerful capability to move cross-layer designs from innuendo to reality."
The CE-LCMC CLASS prototype will include each of the analytical and simulation modules specified in the architecture of the CLASS tool and incorporate appropriate algorithms, operational scenarios, and analytical optimization mechanisms. SNT will also develop interfaces and enhancements for the QualNet simulation engine to incorporate it within the CLASS tool.
