3 months 1 day ago

Rockville, MD, December 14, 2009 — Micro Focus® (LSE.MCRO.L), the leading provider of enterprise application modernization, testing and management solutions, today announces the availability of RUMBA 8, a major new version of the company’s terminal emulation suite. The suite was designed to support new technologies and the Windows 7 operating system. This version delivers a redesigned, modern user interface with significant productivity and Security upgrades. RUMBA 8 will give customers optimum performance and flexibility when connecting to critical applications residing on a variety of host systems. As a result, users gain the speed, reliability and security needed to effectively run their government operations.

RUMBA provides connectivity from Microsoft Windows desktops to virtually any host system with mission-critical reliability, protecting valuable information assets and securing the communications between workstations and host systems with a set of rich features. RUMBA 8 enables customers to extend mainframe applications and realize the benefits of application modernization, including lower costs and increased efficiency.

“The launch of RUMBA 8 is yet another testament to Micro Focus’ commitment to provide industry-leading, end-to-end modernization solutions to our customers,” said Archie Roboostoff, Product Marketing Director at Micro Focus. “Early adopter customers have noticed the speed and enhanced usability provided by this new version. RUMBA 8 enables customers to reduce the cost, risk, and complexity of accessing host applications, transforming terminal emulation into an important part of our customers’ overall modernization strategy.”

Beyond the modern interface and support for Windows 7, RUMBA 8 includes a number of benefits and new features, including support for the Microsoft Office ribbon interface and enhanced support for the latest security standards. RUMBA 8 also includes tabbed emulating that lets users connect to multiple hosts from a single Windows desktop. Jeffrey Rodberg, systems analyst with University of New Mexico Hospital, an early adopter of RUMBA 8, stated: “The superusers who run multiple sessions love the new tabbed sessions.”

RUMBA provides an intuitive integration environment for building multi-tier applications as well as support for third party tools. It allows users to connect to applications on a wide range of systems, including IBM mainframe, IBM AS/400, DEC VAX, Micro Focus servers, Hewlett-Packard, and UNIX systems from PC desktops. The newest version was designed specifically to maximize productivity for users of Windows 7, Vista, Windows 2008, Windows 2003 and Windows XP.

In addition to RUMBA, Micro Focus is also announcing the availability of Web-to-Host 6, the new version of the browser based terminal emulator, which includes all the features of RUMBA 8 and support for IIS7 & Windows 2008.
