Curtiss-Wright Controls Debuts OpenVPX(tm) Compliant Rugged 3U VPX Carrier Card for XMC Mezzanine Modules

OTTAWA, ONTARIO –January 6, 2010 -- Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing, a leading designer and manufacturer of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) VME, VPX, OpenVPX™, VXS, and CompactPCI products for the rugged embedded and rugged deployed aerospace and defense (A&D) markets, has introduced the new 3U VPX VPX3-216 ExpressReach™ carrier card to speed and ease the integration of XMC mezzanine cards (VITA 42.4) into embedded systems designed to be complaint with the OpenVPX™ (VITA 65) standard.

“The VPX3-216 ExpressReach switchless carrier further expands our unmatched portfolio of VPX solutions,” said Lynn Patterson, vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing. “The VPX3-216 provides a simple solution for system designs that require additional mezzanine modules.”

The switchless VPX3-216 ExpressReach carrier card is the latest member of Curtiss-Wright Controls’ expanding line of OpenVPX™ Ready 3U and 6U VPX embedded ruggedized products. Curtiss-Wright Controls’ OpenVPX™ Ready products have been designed to meet the new V1.0 OpenVPX and VITA 65 (Draft) Specifications. The VPX3-216 ExpressReach provides a single XMC expansion site mapped directly to the backplane PCIe fabric, with no PCIe switches in between the card and the backplane that would require configuration and add latency. The card provides 64-bits of XMC I/O mapped as 20 differential pairs along with 38 single-ended signals mapped per VITA 46.9. It has been designed to operate with Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing or third-party XMC modules. This fully ruggedized carrier card expands the I/O capability of its host single board computer (SBC) without requiring the use of additional SBCs.

The 3U VPX3-216 ExpressReach’s small form factor enables system developers to take advantage of COTS solutions for a new range of space, weight and power (SWaP)-constrained applications that cannot accommodate the 6U standard. The card features a low power footprint that, other than its IPMI controller and power controller, has no other active components.

VPX3-216 ExpressReach™ Key Features:

· 3U VPX form factor (VITA 46.1)

· Supports one (1) XMC mezzanine module

· Supports x8 lanes PCI Express (PCIe) to XMC (VITA 42.4)

· Supports XMC I/O to backplane

· Complies with VITA 46.9 mapping

· PN5-PN6 Connectors

· XMC I/O routed as per VITA 46.9

- 20 differential, impedance controlled pairs

- 38 single-ended signals

· +5V or +12V XMC operation

· IPMI interface

- Power management features

- Can be operated with or without IPMI.

Ruggedization Levels

The VPX3-216 ExpressReach is designed for demanding high-performance rugged embedded and rugged deployed aerospace and defense (A&D) applications It is offered in a range of rugged configurations which include air-cooled (Level 0/100), conduction-cooled (Level 100/200) and VPX-REDI VITA48.1.

Volume pricing for commercial and rugged versions of the VPX3-216 ExpressReach is available. For pricing and availability please contact the factory.
