LynuxWorks to Demonstrate LynxSecure Separation Kernel for Military, Avionics Applications
3 years 1 month ago

New RTOS to Highlight Secure Partitioning, Ability to Allow Multiple Guest Operating Systems on a Single Chip for Adherence to Stringent Security, Safety Concerns

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 22, 2007 – Reinforcing its reputation as a leader in safe and secure embedded systems, LynuxWorks, Inc., today announced it will participate in a public demonstration of MILS, an emerging high-assurance and high-robustness security and safety architecture, sponsored by The Open Group. As part of the demonstration at The Open Group's Enterprise Architecture Conference in San Diego on Feb. 1, 2007, LynuxWorks will demonstrate its LynxSecure Separation Kernel running on Intel Virtualization Technology in a simulated aircraft environment.

The MILS architecture, which stands for Multiple Independent Levels of Security, allows these multiple levels of security domains to coexist on a single computer, making it possible to replace several computers with just one. Especially of interest to the Military and avionics industries and their specific safety-critical software environments, MILS is designed to address stringent security and safety concerns, with strict guidelines for data isolation, damage limitation and information flow policies.

“LynxSecure expands on LynuxWorks' proven real-time capabilities of the LynxOS real-time operating system, and our participation in the MILS demonstration is further testament to LynuxWorks' position as a leader in safe and reliable real-time operating systems,” said Gurjot Singh, CEO, LynuxWorks.

The LynxSecure demonstration will show two applications running on a Linux guest operating system, one of which provides a secure data link with a simulated airborne vehicle. A second application, running on top of LynxSecure, provides critical sensor information to the vehicle. The demonstration will show that a failure of the data link channel will not affect the operation of the sensor application, highlighting the ability of the LynxSecure operating system to contain faults.

The Open Group's Enterprise Architecture Practitioners Conference is scheduled for Feb. 1, 2007, at the Marriott Mission Valley in San Diego. For more information, visit www.opengroup.org/sandiego2007/milsregistration.

About LynxSecure

Unlike a traditional security kernel that performs all trusted functions for a secure operating system, a separation kernel's primary security function is to partition data and resources of a system and to control information flow between partitions. Partitions and information-flow policies are defined by the kernel's configuration. This provides a robust foundation for the creation of multi-level secure systems.
